WELCOME TO AP LITERATURE!
This summer you are expected to read a book of higher literary merit to prepare for your reading for next year's class. The list below came from the 2018 National Exam and contains a variety of novels, novellas, and drama. The list is spectacular! If you are interested in reading something more modern, look for those that are starred. You can't go wrong with any of these books.
You are required to take 10 pages of notes on the book you choose - you may use any style of note taking that seems to fit the book and your interests. First, pick up a composition or spiral notebook to use for your notes. Count six pages in, and then begin your first set of notes. If you decide to read more than one book on the list, you should plan to take notes on that book if you would like it to count as one of your required reading books. If you decide to read several books and take notes "later," remember your impressions WHILE reading will capture the most detail and thinking. When several weeks have passed, your thinking often becomes less clear over time. To best prepare for AP Literature, simply read. Keep your mind active by thinking about your books from different perspectives. You will find that the transition into reading in the fall will be much smoother! |
